Education is a prime ingredient in providing access to employment, economic prosperity, improved quality of life and personal upliftment.
Currently the Department of Education spends 11% of its budget on stationery and textbooks; an average R295 per child. In under resourced areas the average income barely covers basic needs and in schools we’ve interviewed, only 18% of school fees are paid.
Educators without blackboards, children without stationery, over-crowded classrooms are some of the problems in South African schools, which has a major impact on the standard of education.
Without support from donors, thousands of children will continue sharing textbooks and stationery, and improvements to education in South Africa will be hampered.
